3 Day literary festival to mark the 160th birth anniversary of Anton Chekhov 28 to 30 January, 2020

The inaugural ceremony of the 3 day long festival to mark the 160th birth anniversary of Anton Chekhov and a seminar were held at the Russian Cultural Centre in Trivandrum on 28 January, 2020.
Dr. Rajbir Parashar, poet , writer and Head of the Department, R K S D College, Kaithal, Haryana inaugurated the seminar titled ANTON CHEKHOV AND INDIAN LITERATURE. In his inaugural address, Dr. Parashar said that Chekhov was the greatest contribution of Russia to the world of theatre. ” While studying, Anton Chekhov who had started writing for earning money became passionate over literature. Later he wrote for innovation. Chekhov did not mind rewriting his own plays and short stories. The theatre activists in India are greatly influenced by him. His works have been translated into all major Indian languages. The Indian writers especially short story writers adopted Chekhov’s way of writing which reflect emotions of common men”, said Dr.Parashar .
Dr. Raja Warier, Director of the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts , University of Kerala delivered the key- note address. He spoke on the influence of Anton Chekhov on Malayalam Literature. Dr S. Anilkumar, Deputy Director , of the Pushkin Centre of Russian language (under the Russian Cultural Centre) and Ms Kavitha Nair, Asst.Director of the Russian Cultural Centre spoke on the occasion.
One day seminar on ANTON CHEKHOV AND WORLD LITERATURE ( on 29 January at Iqbal College, Peringanmmala) and Theatre workshop ( on 30 January at Gouri Centre, Kallar) was organised as part of the festival.
