458th birthday of the famous English playwright William Shakespeare

he English Literary Society of the College celebrated the 458th birthday of the famous English playwright William Shakespeare. Shakespeare was born on 23 April 1564 in Stratford, England. He lived for 52 years and died on 23 April 1616 in Stratford. Shakespeare wrote 37 famous plays in his life. A PPT competition based on Shakespeare’s works, a quiz and language games were organized to mark the birthday. The programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Sanjay Goyal, who presided over it. In his address, he said that Shakespeare’s name is one of the best playwrights in the world. Shakespeare was related to the European Renaissance, which was an era of advancement of literature as well as other arts and sciences. Shakespeare’s plays have an impact on the whole of humanity. Principal in-charge of the evening session Dr. Harender Gupta, Head of English Department Dr. Rajbir Parashar, President of Literary Society Dr. Naresh Garg also addressed the participants. The convener of this programme was Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj, Associate Professor, Department of English. The team of Komal and Mamta secured first position in the PPT competition. Their presentation was on the topic “Shakespeare – A Biographical Overview”. Ankita and Anu’s team secured the second position by presenting on the theme “Shakespeare – Some Fun Facts”. Shagun and Neha’s team gave their presentation on “Shakespeare and Hindi Cinema” and got the third position. The team of Kajal and Shweta secured the fourth position by performing on the topic “Shakespeare – Complete Works”. The team of Rahul and Mandeep performed on the topic “Shakespeare – Famous Quotes”. They also got the fourth position. All these students were of MA Englsih previous. A quiz was an attraction for the audience in which the role of quiz master was played by Dr. Vikas Bharadwaj. BA students also participated in it. Games based on the names of Shakespeare’s plays and phrases composed by him were also organized for the final year students of MA. In the name game of plays, Rita, Richa, Sahil and Vipin were first, second, third respectively. In the phrase-based game, Shagun, Komal and Pushpa got first, second and third place respectively. Dr. Geeta Goel, Dr. Manjula Goel, Prof. Richa Langyan acted as the judges in this programme. The efficient anchoring of the stage was done by Pratibha and Tamana, both Previous year students. The Principal and other staff members congratulated the award winners and other participants. Dr. Jaibir Dhariwal, Mrs. Himani Agarwal, Mrs. Shikha and Mr. Rajkumar also remained present on this occasion.
