Multidisciplinary National Workshop on ‘Understanding Research Ethics, Plagiarism, and Research Metrics

The Department of Economics and Research Committee of the College organized a Multidisciplinary National Workshop on ‘Understanding Research Ethics, Plagiarism, and Research Metrics’ on April 27, 2024. The workshop was inaugurated by College Principal Dr. Sanjay Goyal through a lamp lighting ceremony. Dr. Sanjay Goyal formally welcomed all the esteemed resource persons and participants from all over India and abroad, underscoring the relevance of this timely workshop. Dr. Ritu Kang Walia, Co-Convener of the workshop, conducted the inaugural session. Dr. Rajbir Parashar, Coordinator of the workshop and convener of the research committee of the college, shared his insights on the theme of the workshop and highlighted its objectives.
 
In the workshop, there were three sessions led by three resource persons: Dr. A. K. Verma, Prof. Manoj Kumar Joshi, and Dr. Shankar Reddy Kolle. Dr. Suraj Walia, Head of the Department of Economics and convener of the workshop, introduced the first resource person, Dr. A. K. Verma, Director of the Centre for the Study of Society and Politics (CSSP), Kanpur. Dr. Verma spoke on ‘Identifying and Avoiding Plagiarism in Research,’ highlighting various aspects of plagiarism and the penalties associated with it. Participants posed their queries to Dr. Verma.
 
The second session was coordinated by Dr. O.P. Saini, Associate Professor of Hindi, with Professor Manoj Kumar Joshi, Chairperson of the Department of Library and Information Science at Kurukshetra University, as the resource person. Professor Joshi discussed ‘Research Ethics and Integrity,’ highlighting various ethical issues at different stages of research.
 
The third session was coordinated by Dr. Geeta Goyal, Associate Professor of English, with Dr. Shankar Reddy Kolle, Deputy Librarian at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, as the resource person. Dr. Kolle presented various metrics for understanding research paper citations, and participants posed their queries to him.
 
In the feedback session, participants shared their learning experiences. Two scholars, one from Germany and one from the USA, also shared their feedback about the workshop.
The workshop brochure was distributed a week prior through various social media platforms. Within just one week, over 140 participants had registered from all over India, including states like Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Chhattisgarh, with one scholar each from Germany and the USA. Dr. Ritu Kang Walia proposed a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, principal, faculty, participants, students, and organizing team. For the smooth organization of the workshop, crucial roles were played by Dr. Surender Singh, Associate Professor of Political Science; Dr. Naresh Kumar, Librarian; Dr. Ankit Garg, Assistant Professor of Computer Science; Mr. Yashpal, Assistant Professor of Economics; and technical support was provided by Mr. Surjeet Saini and Mr. Jasbir. Principal Dr. Sanjay Goyal congratulated the organizing committee for successfully organizing this high-quality national workshop.
