Classroom discussion on the topic “Mahatma Gandhi’s life and his teachings

To commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a thought-provoking classroom discussion on the topic “Mahatma Gandhi’s life and his teachings” was organized by the Department of English for the students of M.A English II and IV semester on January 31, 2024. This joint event of both the classes featured insightful interpretations by five teams of P.G students- comprising Priyanka, Komal, Monika, Anshika, Rasna, Bindu, Kuljeet, Neeru, Sanjna, Anisha, Vidhi, Tanu, Tamnya, Shivani, and Bhumika – who delved into various profound sayings of Gandhiji. Students had to interpret and explain Gandhiji’s thoughts given by their teacher. Among the explored quotes were Gandhiji’s impactful words such as, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” highlighting the importance of personal responsibility in bringing about societal change. Another saying, “Even a little untruth destroys a man, as a drop of poison ruins milk,” was explained by students by giving numerous examples. Additionally, the teams reflected on the principles of non-violence and human dignity through Gandhiji’s words, “Just as violence is the rule of animal life, in the same way, non-violence is the rule of human life,” and the power of unity and friendship in, “Just as a drop is part of the ocean, similarly, by forming friendship, we can create an ocean of friendship.” Dr. Geeta Goyal and Dr. Manjula Goel acted as the convener of the activity. Dr Sanjay Goyal, Principal, Dr Rajbir Parashar, HOD and all the faculty members from the Department commended the participants for their engaging presentations. The event concluded with Dr Geeta Goyal inspiring the students to embrace Gandhiji’s values of non-violence and truth in their daily lives, emphasizing the relevance of these principles in leading meaningful lives.
