Department of Computer Science
About
Recognizing the growing importance of education in computer technology, the Department of Computer Science was established in 1995, with Ms. Jyoti Vashisth as the founder and first Head of the Department. As per government policies and university norms, the subject was introduced under the self-finance scheme, and continues to operate under this model.
Prof. Kamal Gupta joined the department in 1997 and served until May 2012, after which he moved to the Government College cadre through HPSC. Notably, Dr. Pardeep Mittal, now an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Kurukshetra University, also contributed significantly during the department’s formative years.
In the 21st century, the teaching and learning of Computer Science has been universalized across all classes and streams of the institution.
Currently, the department offers the following programs:
Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
B.Sc. in Computer Science
Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA)
During its early years, the department took a significant initiative by organizing special training programs in computer literacy for teaching and non-teaching staff. This major step fostered a smooth transition towards a technology-savvy workforce and culture, adapting to the changing times.
Continuing this legacy, the faculty of the department still plays an active and pivotal role in upgrading the soft skills of both students and support staff. The department emphasizes:
Conceptual understanding of core areas in computing
Enhancement of programming skills
Development of logical and analytical abilities
The prime objective of the department is to equip students with lifelong learning and leadership skills, enabling them to excel in their chosen professions.
It is a matter of pride that our students have successfully advanced to positions of responsibility through effective Industry-Institute interaction, and many are placed in prestigious software industries and multinational corporations (MNCs).
