National Service Scheme (NSS)

Launched in: 1969 (Gandhiji’s Centenary Year)
Motto: Not Me, But You


Objective

To extend the dimension of higher education by involving student youth in community service, aiming at:

  • Personality development through social service

  • Inculcation of social welfare spirit

  • Development of behavioral and interactive skills

  • Making students socially responsible and patriotic citizens


NSS at R.K.S.D. (P.G.) College

  • Introduced in: 1984

  • Function: Regular part of the academic program

  • Units: 3 NSS units

  • Students per Unit: 100 (Total: 300 students)

  • Special Benefit: 5% weightage in admission to institutions of higher education for NSS merit certificate holders

  • Based on: Konark Sun Wheel

  • 8 Bars: Represent 24 hours of the day, emphasizing continuous readiness for national service

  • Colors:

    • Red: Energy and spirit of NSS volunteers

    • Blue: Represents the cosmos, symbolizing the small but significant role of NSS in contributing to human welfare
