Extension lecture on “Intonation in English Speech” organised by Department of English.

Two extension lectures on “Intonation in English Speech” were organized under the aegis of the Department of English at RKSD College. The main speaker on the occasion was Prof Avinash Pathak,Associate Professor at Government College,Narwana. On reaching the college Principal Dr Sanjay Goyal welcomed him. Dr Suruchi Sharma convened the event and introduced the speaker to the audience. Prof Avinash Pathak is a Gold Medalist in MA Linguistics and MA Philosophy. Along with being a master of his subject, he passed various courses in French, German, Punjabi and Urdu languages. He explained that the sounds related to English language are also similar to other languages. The understanding of students in learning the language depends on how and in what tone they pronounce the sounds in words. Remember that the subjects ‘Intonation’ and ‘Phonetics’ are being taught across all B.A. and M.A. (English) streams in approximately all the colleges of the state. So,describing it as an important and special achievement of the English Department, Dr Sanjay Goyal said that lecturing on such a subject shows a strong step in itself which we are taking towards our language. English language today is not difficult in any way but it should be just that we try to learn the science related to language and its related information through a good teacher. The head of the department Dr Rajbir Parashar thanked Prof Avinash Pathak on behalf of the entire department. Dr Geeta Goyal, Dr Vikas Bhardwaj, Dr Manjula Goyal, Prof Jaibir Dhariwal, Dr SP Verma, Prof Naresh Garg, Prof Anjali, Prof Richa, Prof Nidhi, Prof Archana Tiwari and Prof Pranjal Thareja were present on the occasion.
