Career orientation programme

he department of English of RKSD PG College, Kaithal in association with the IQAC cell and the Career Development Guidance Counselling and Placement cell of the college organises a career orientation for the pass out students of MA(English), third and fourth semester postgraduate students and Research Scholars from 20 September 2021 to 25 September 2021.
The pre-inaugural handling of the online platform Google Meet in the Inaugural Session on September 20 was done by Prof Richa Langyan and the stage of the Session was conducted by Dr S P Verma. The event was introduced by Dr Suruchi Sharma, followed with a brief Welcoming introduction of the Keynote/Inaugural Speaker, Dr Sanjay Goyal, by Dr. Seema Gupta, Coordinator, IQAC of the College, and Associate Professor, Dept. of English. Welcoming the associated cells and the participants, Dr Seema expressed some key points of Quality Assurance that need to be taken care of while planning or organizing such marathon events.
The programme was formally inaugurated by worthy Principal of the college, Dr Sanjay Goyal, who in his inaugural address said that in addition to the unique structure and layout of the program, the genuine willingness and key participation of the department of English in it ,were some of the major reasons of the grand success of the program. He also stressed the importance of dedication to one’s profession and the need to have proper planning before taking up and implementing any project. Dr. S.K. Goyal enthused the participants and the dept. as whole for this timely organization of the NET Orientation, taking place weeks before many first timers may appear for it in October this year. The head of the department of English, Dr Rajbir Parashar extended special thanks to the management and principal. He also thanked all the colleagues in the dept., especially the Conveners/Organizing Secretaries of the event. After this, everybody got to the task – Towards real efforts to make the Orientation deliver optimum to the aspiring beneficiaries.
In the first technical session of the program Dr SP Verma briefed the participants about the syllabus and scoring importance of General Paper I in timely and overall cracking of the exam. Dr Suruchi Sharma in the next technical session introduced the detailed schedule of the program and the units of subject specific syllabus to be discussed in the forthcoming sessions.
The first session on Day 1, September 20, was started by Dr SP Verma with his elaborate talk/presentation on the Anglo Saxon Poetry till the dramatists of the Elizabethan Period. Next day, it was followed by a very valuable inclusion of Miss Rashmi, a recent pass out (2019-20) of the dept. and a proud and very first time JRF achiever. She shared her experience about how to prepare and clear the Test. Dwelling in detail on her individual approach, difficulties faced and the way outs chalked out, she also thanked her teachers in the dept. for their guidance and motivation. The next session was taken up by Dr Suruchi Sharma who highlighted some of the important poets and writers of the Jacobean Age till to the Age of Alexander Pope. She had to come in place of Prof. Naresh Garg who despite his preparedness for the talk, had to opt out on health grounds. We wish him all the best and a very speedy recovery.
Dr Jaibir Dhariwal on Day 3, began the first session by introducing the key figures of the Romantic Age starting with poets like Wordsworth, prose writers like Charles lamb and novelists from Walter Scott to Richard Sheridan. He ended his presentation with the historical background of the Victorian age, its major themes and stylistic variations, of poets, novelists and essayists.
Dr S P Verma on day 4 began the first session with a brief introduction of some of the important critical thinkers of Greek and Roman origin and some famous English critics like Matthew Arnold, Dr Samuel Johnson and John Dryden. Dr Rajbir Parashar in the succeeding session elaborated the background of New Criticism by highlighting its principle differences with the traditional criticism. He coherently and precisely summed up the working areas of the new age critics and their relation to Structuralism and Poststructuralism. However, due to lack of time, detailed discussion of the later trends was cut short.
Session on Day 5 was started by Dr S P Verma with a brief overview of Structuralism, Poststructuralism, Deconstruction, Psychoanalytic Criticism and Feminism. He elaborated key concepts of the trends and approaches of a vary diverse nature. Further inputs were provided on the origins of these trends of thought by Dr Rajbir Parashar. In the next session, Dr Suruchi Sharma introduced the major terms of the Unit of Cultural Studies by defining culture and cultural studies, elements of culture, types of culture, Mall culture, Media Culture and Consumer Culture in her presentation.
The final day was started by Dr Rajbir Parashar with his presentation on the major theorists under the unit of cultural studies like Stuart Hall, Stephen Greenbalt, Raymond Williams,Antonio Gramsci, Louis Althrusser, Frederic Jameson and Northrope Frye.
