About

Since its inception in 1954, Department of Economics continues to be a leading center of teaching and learning of Economics in the region. The founding faculty of the Dept. include eminent educationists and economists like Sh. M.L. Grover, Dr M.N. Sharma and Sh. K.K. Aggarwal. Sh. B.K.Gupta, joined the Dept. as founder Faculty and Head of the Dept. Dr Virander Goyal joined on 26-02-2008 as regular faculty and in 2008, he became head of the Dept.  Later on, Dr Suraj Walia and Dr Ritu Walia joined the Dept. as regular Faculty on 08-02-2013 and 19-03-2020 respectively. At present, Undergraduate courses offered by the department are B.A. Economics General and B.Com. In the evening session of the College, M.A. Economics is also there for postgraduate studies in the subject. 

 

Department Strength

The Department has continuous series of activities like Extension lectures by renowned academicians; seminars sponsored by D.G.H.E Haryana; A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution contest sponsored by forum of Free Enterprise, Mumbai, Declamation Contests sponsored by Cooperative Societies ; different competitions like essay writing, Power Point, Best out of Waste and educational visits/tour. Department also helps students in investigating a particular topic or economic issue and develops the interest of students to choose Economics as a Career. 

Over the years, the Department has consistently good results with university positions and distinctions. Every year, our graduates are getting admissions in various universities departments for their post-graduation. The department has also been very successful in placing its graduates in various fields like banking, teaching, self-employment, defense and various competitive exams. Student-centered teaching, special attention to weak students, remedial classes, Mentor – Mentee groups are the other special features of the department.

The study of Economics is an excellent way to acquire problem-solving skills and develop a logical, ordered way of looking at problems. It leads naturally to careers in business, law, education, banking, insurance, journalism, public policy, diplomacy and in research. It is one of the most important subject opted by the students for different competitive exams i.e. Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Economic Services (IES) and Haryana Civil Service (HCS). Economics continues to rank among the most popular subject chosen by students at UG and PG level. Student Association

In every session, department of Economics constitutes ‘Economics Association’ for the overall development of students.  All students of Economics are the member of Economics Association. To ensure well organized initiatives, students with leadership qualities are  given key responsibility  as President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint-Secretary and Executive members.
