State level essay writing and poster making competitions were organized on the 3rd March,2020 by English Literary Society, Department of English, RKSD College, Kaithal. Ten to fifteen days prior to the competition, invitations were sent to different government,aided and private colleges in the state to submit essays in soft copy of at least 2 students from their own colleges and posters of 2 such students to the departmental email id. It is a matter of great pleasure that a large number of participants from across colleges in the state registered their participation. Out of 70 to 80 essays from around 30 colleges, the top 5 entries were selected on 29 February by a panel of judges who were invited to share their chosen essay with their teacher mentor in the competition on 3 March at college. Nearly 100 online entries for the poster making competition were received on the mail ID of the department, whose exhibition was done on the main stage of the college playground on 3rd March. The jury panel selected a total of 7 contestants for the top entries. After the poster exhibition, the students of the selected essays presented their essays in the newly constructed seminar room of the PG block and the selected students of the essays and posters were awarded and honored. While conducting the stage, Dr. SP Verma as the Organising Secretary of the program told how the English language is becoming important for every type of job today and asked the students to take it with caution. After this, Dr. Suruchi Sharma, who was the co-convenor of the program, explained the outline of the entire program and invited Principal Dr. Sanjav Goyal to bless all the participants. Subsequently, Dr. Rajbir Parashar, Head of the Department of English, presented his views on the topics laid down for various essays and as he was also one of the jury members of the Essay Writing Competition, he explained the criteria adopted for selection of participants for the Essay Writing Competition to everyone. Keeping in view the time limit, 2 students from the first position, Devashish and Gagandeep, were invited to read their essays, thereby concluding the essay competition. And after this Dr. Vikas Bhardwaj, who was one of the members of the jury of the poster competition, presented his views about the posters of students coming from RKSD College and other colleges and told everyone about the criteria adopted for the selection of posters. He then announced the names of the first,second and third entries of the poster exhibition competition. Program convener Prof.Jaibir Dhariwal extended a vote of thanks to the worthy Principal Dr Sanjay Goyal for his continuous support and consent for all such events,to the Head Dr Rajbir for his constant endeavours to uplift the scale of the department with all such functions, to all his fellow colleagues in the department,to all the teacher mentors and last but not the least to all the student-participants from across colleges in the state. The jury for the essay writing competition was Dr. Rajbir Parashar, Dr. Geeta Goyal and Prof. Naresh Garg. The jury for the poster making competition was Dr. Geeta Bindal, Dr. Geeta Jaiswal and Dr. Vikas Bhardwaj. Students of MA English Previous, Final and B.A. supported in the smooth run and conduct of the program. On this occasion Dr. Geeta Goyal, Dr. Seema Gupta, Dr. Manjula, Prof Anjali, Prof Richa , Prof. Pranjal, Prof. Nidhi, Prof. Archana, Dr. C.B. Saini, Dr. Anil Narula, Dr. Ashok Sharma, Dr. Surendra Arya, Dr. Ashok Attri, Dr. Ramphal Maun and others were present. The event ended by inviting everyone to lunch.
